Moscow 莫斯科 Москва

On arrival (Day 1), we had lunch at Hard Rock Cafe, which is situated at the Arbat Street - a "shopping street" that is lined up with numerous souvenir shops! Like many big cities, many 'stalls' selling paintings were at the middle of the walking street, too! There's some similarity to the street I walked through in Barcelona long long ago...

Moscow Kremlin is the highlight of the day. Together with the architectures and the red square, it forms the cluster of monuments as the UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Moscow Kremlin is one of the few well-known fortress which houses the President's office.

A famous architecture here is the Dormition Cathedral at the Cathedral Square in Moscow Kremlin.

Does this look familiar? Well, a typical architecture that we can find along the river bank of Europe cities, right? Well, look at it carefully! It's not the actual building. It's just a facade built to 'hide' the building that's under restoration at the moment.

The Red Square is another highlight. It is where the key monuments are situated.

The Red Square is now commonly used as a meeting place or a place to hold events of celebrations such as the Russia "Independent day" that happened on 9 July.

The GUM is the state department store, which was the trading centre in the past. Now, it's a shopping mall. It's worth a visit for its architecture and its significance.

The most recogniseable landmark in the Red Square is none other than St Basil's Cathedral, that is made up of 9 churches!

Zemsky prikaz, the historical museum has a pretty unique colour scheme. Its aluminum white roof top creates an impression that the building is covered with glittering snow.

One other well-known feature of Moscow is the elaborate decoration in the Moscow Metro Stations. It is also known for its depth, which all stations are minimally 100m below ground. We had the opportunity to visit several stations.
